WHY A LOCAL GREEN DIRECTORY?

  • The Green Economy Initiative was developed to address climate change as well as to stimulate global economy, following these 3 major concepts: 1) mainstreaming nature-related services; 2) generating green jobs and 3) introducing instruments and market signals to accelerate green economy.

  • Individual and institutional consumers (government and private) find these eco-products hard to locate and are deprived of access to information, resulting to low consumer patronage and low income for green business. In other words, there is a distinct barrier that separates the producers of environmentally-preferable products to its target customers.

There is a need to link the local producers of environmentally-preferable products to its environmentally-conscious consumers in order to promote the Green Economy Agenda in the country.

  • As the use of the "Yellow Pages" directory listing is a proven and market-tested tool to reach various ranges of consumers, the counterpart "Green Pages" directory listing for Philippine-based companies and entrepreneurs engaged in eco-products and services would address the requirement of its target a specific line of environmentally conscious consumers.

The Philippines is now ready for Green Business, as presented in this DTI-PRIME Survey in 2005:

79% of the respondents expressed serious concerns on the state of the environment
55 % are willing to buy environmental-friendly products
37% are willing to buy even if they cost more

The National Ecolabelling Programme-Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP) through its administrator the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc (PCEPSDI) and in partnership with the Development Academy of the Philippines, in its mission promote green purchasing and production in the country will publish the first and only PHILIPPINE GREEN PAGES.

Adopted from the ECO-PRODUCTS DIRECTORY , this local version will feature product-specific information for green purchasing:

  • Environmental performance
  • Product performance
  • Life cycle analysis
  • Environmental label (based on ISO 14024 guidelines)

In addition, this directory will also present the ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS of different companies which are all engaged in Green Business.

Similar to the ECO-PRODUCTS DIRECTORY, the PHILIPPINE GREEN PAGES will be published annually. The official release of the first edition is on November 12, 2010.
